Oklahoma vendors sell ephedra after judge's ruling

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Some Oklahoma stores have started ephedra products after a federal judge in Utah ruled against the FDA's ban of the substance.
The Food and Drug Administration claimed that the stimulant often found in energy and weight loss pills killed five people.
But, a federal judge in Utah struck down last year the FDA's year-long ban on supplements containing ephedra.
Since then Owner of Max Muscle Brandon Hodges says he has started reselling ephedra products. Hodges said he warns potential buyers of side effect and won't sell to anyone under 18. Other stores aren't willing to take the risk.
A spokesman for Akin's Natural Foods in Tulsa said the store won't carry the product again.

Ephedra Diet pills containing ephedra and mahuang are being sold again, 
but the FDA still wants the higher dosage products banned. The best supply is on the internet. Most retail stores are slow fulfilling their clients demands.
Ephedra Diet Pill - The FDA is taking a hard stand on ephedra diet pill products that contain more than 10mg of ephedra per dosage. Ephedra diet pills like Stacker 2 with ephedra, Stacker 3 with ephedra, Diet Fuel with Mahuang and Ripped Fuel with Mahuang are under attack from the FDA because they contain more than 10mg of ephedra per dosage.
Ephedra diet pill inventory is low since these products have not been manufactured for over 2 years. But the good news is the supply of these ephedra products are coming on line. Now that the word is getting out that ephedra is back there is a sharp increase in demand and prices for these types of ephedra products have skyrocketed.
Many distributors and health food retailers has been put on notice by the FDA to either remove these higher dosage (usually 24 mg ephedra alkaloids) ephedra products from the shelf and destroy them or possibly face legal action. The FDA has not made it clear yet what their next course of action is going to be.
A few of the more ethical companies have complied with the FDA's wishes, but of course others have not. There are companies still manufacturing diet pills that contain higher than 10 mgs of ephedra per dose but have not had any problems with the FDA at this point.
Ephedra diet pills had been removed from store shelves when a ban went into effect on April 2004. The great news is in April 2005 a Utah judge overturned the FDA's ban stating that the FDA needed to provide documentation that the herb was harmful if taken as directed. The FDA has not provided that documentation. No timeline has been established.
In light of this ruling, ephedra diet pills have made their way back on to the market.
Ephedra diet pill's main ingredient is a Chinese herb that has been used medicinally for 5000 years. With cigarettes, alcohol, and over the counter pain medicines killing tens of thousands every year, it seems that our tax dollars could be used for something better than trying to prevent overweight people from losing fat.
Most of the major suppliers of ephedra diet pills have either filed bankruptcy or have discontinued making the ephedra diet pills. There are some newer companies out there that have recently launched products with the lower 10mg ephedra dosage.
Ephedra supplements were found online at a number of sport nutrition web sites.
Do not exceed 10 mg ephedra a day. Take 1 capsule per day yielding 10 mg ephedra.
